Sometimes all you need is a middle school field trip to City Hall
The City of Auburn had the good fortune of hosting middle schoolers from across South Korea last Thursday afternoon. Their stop was part of a weeks-long trip organized by the Washington International Student Experience, with excursions in Seattle, in Redmond at Microsoft, at Point Defiance Zoo and of course, our neck of the woods.
A huge shout out to Lynda Kim at WISE for organizing the trip and for thinking of the City of Auburn as a resource to add to the students’ learning experience.
In their brief talk with Mayor Nancy Backus, she got to tell them a bit about our city government and the surrounding areas, our priorities to our residents, and the hard work they expect of city leadership. She also got to ask them a few questions — like what their favorite part of the trip was so far (Microsoft), what were some of their favorite foods (bulgogi, said a prodigious girl sitting in the front row) and what they do for fun (play outside, play video games and hang out with friends, of course).
All of this proceeded a quick walk to the City Hall courtyard, where a few of our finest Auburn Police officers were waiting to show and tell their equipment.
The students attend schools in cities such as Seoul, Ulsan, Busan, Daegu, Cheongju and Jinhae.
They also, as you’ll see in the photos, very much appreciate the roar of a good motorcycle engine.
